BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY IN POLAND
"Biological diversity means the variability among living
organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial,
marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological
complexes of which they are part; this includes
diversity within species, between species
and of ecosystems"

Convention on Biological Diversity
The service will present the following data, regarding:
- Convention on Biological Diversity,

- Biological diversity in Poland,
- Actions taken in the aim of the biological diversity conservation,
- Ensuring the access to the databases on biological diversity in Poland.

The intention of the institution creating the service is to facilitate the user, thanks to the WWW technology, the access to the world and national services and data bases in this field.
The service ensures all interested parties the possibility to join the process of mutual exchange of information and data.
The service was created in the framework of UNEP project Biodiversity Data Management, financed from the funds of Global Environment Facility. The service was prepared in the co-operation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry and other governmental institutions as well as the non-governmental ones.
The service was enhanced during the project "Upgrading of the Polish contribution towards the Clearing House Mechanism under the Convention on Biological Diversity", sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (PIN/MATRA Fund).

The presented service was technically elaborated by the staff of the Computer Centre of the University of Warsaw (CIUW), providing consultations concerning all computing issues involved. The CIUW ensures also the ongoing functioning of the Information System on Biological Resources in Poland within the framework of the Warsaw Metropolitan Area Network .
